Their planes fly dangerously close to each other before Iceman pulls away at the last second, causing Maverick to spin out of control. Goose is ejected from their plane and dies upon impact with the canopy.
Maverick is left traumatized by Goose’s death and struggles to continue flying. However, he eventually overcomes his fears and returns to Top Gun for one final mission against enemy planes over international waters.
In an epic dogfight scene, Maverick uses all his training and skills to outmaneuver the enemy planes and emerge victorious. He is hailed as a hero by his fellow pilots, and he finally comes to terms with Goose’s death.
